Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania oil producers operate more than 19,000 wells to produce 3.6 million barrels of Pennsylvania Grade crude oil each year.

Wyoming

The petroleum industry has been exploring for oil and gas in Wyoming for over 126 years. In 1884 the first oil well was drilled southeast of present day Lander. During 2009, 1,858 wells were drilled and completed.

Utah

Utah contains four of the Nation’s 100 largest oil fields; Utah has approximately 3,200 producing oil wells

Colorado

The industry accounts for 4,000 jobs in Weld, according to the Colorado Oil & Gas Association, and hundreds, if not thousands, more jobs are coming.

New Mexico

New Mexico’s oil and natural gas industry employs 15,000 people in jobs that pay about 40 percent more than the average state wage.

North Dakota

Bakken Shale

Texas

Texas is the leading crude oil-producing State in the Nation (excluding Federal offshore areas, which produce more than any single State).

The State’s first major oil boom began in 1901 with the discovery of the Spindle Top oil field in the upper Gulf Coast basin. Since then, major discoveries have been made in East Texas, West Texas, and offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.

As of January 2009, there were 83,700 producing oil wells in the state

Kansas

The Kansas oil and natural gas industry is an economic engine that generates nearly $4.3 billion each year, and sends more than 28,100 Kansans to work each day. Our state’s second largest industry also provides hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue to fund schools, build bridges and pave roads.

Arkansas

Billions of dollars have been invested in exploration and production, and there are over 30,000 Arkansas jobs based on the production of oil and natural gas with average annual incomes of more than $60,000.

Illinois

There are currently 532 oil fields with more than 16,000 active wells located in 43 Illinois counties that produced in excess of 9 million barrels of crude oil per year.

Ohio

Ohio’s natural gas and crude oil industry employs 4,000 direct jobs and 10,400 indirect jobs that supports a total of 14,400 Ohio jobs.

West Virginia

Louisiana

Excluding federal offshore areas, Louisiana has known reserves of 458 million barrels of oil, 2.1 percent of the nation’s total.

Michigan

Private citizens of Michigan hold more than 8,000 jobs directly related to crude oil and natural gas exploration, production, refining, transportation, and related supportive supplies and services. In 2008, Michigan private mineral owners received over $250 million in royalties from oil and gas production.

Alaska

Prudhoe Bay on Alaska’s North Slope is the highest yielding oil field in the United States, producing approximately 264,000 barrels per day.
